FAQ of 1/1.8 Inch Machine Vision Lens

1. Does using a smaller sensor change the focal length of a 1/1.8 inch machine vision lens?

No. The lens remains at its stated 8 mm, 12 mm, 16 mm, 25 mm, 35 mm or 50 mm focal length. A smaller sensor only captures a smaller portion of the image circle, producing a narrower field of view.

2. How should the H, V and D viewing angles of a 1/1.8 inch machine vision lens be interpreted?

H represents the horizontal angle, V represents the vertical angle, and D represents the diagonal angle. For example, the 8 mm FP117 model provides 49.3° horizontal, 34.0° vertical and 58.5° diagonal viewing angles on a 1/1.8-inch sensor.

3. Is the FP117 1/1.8 inch machine vision lens a telecentric lens?

No telecentric design is specified for the FP117 series. It should be treated as a conventional fixed-focal-length lens, meaning image magnification and perspective can change when the working distance changes. Precision dimensional inspection may require camera calibration or a telecentric lens.

4. Does the FP117 1/1.8 inch machine vision lens support autofocus or an electronic iris?

The page specifies adjustable focus and iris but does not list autofocus, motorized iris control or an electrical communication interface. The lens should therefore be treated as manually adjustable unless an automated version is separately confirmed.

5. What does 73% relative illumination mean for the 8 mm 1/1.8 inch machine vision lens?

Relative illumination generally describes how much brightness is retained near the image edge compared with the center. The FP117-0828 lists 73%, but the page does not provide its test aperture or detailed measurement conditions. Verify edge brightness with the actual camera and lighting system.

6. Can the FP117 1/1.8 inch machine vision lens be used for near-infrared or ultraviolet imaging?

The page does not provide a wavelength range, spectral transmission curve or UV/NIR coating data. Visible-light machine vision use is supported, but UV or near-infrared performance should be confirmed before selecting the lens for those applications.
